Pit stop

We love to travel...but Scout and I are not fond of the time spent trapped in the car. We went to VT last weekend and the car time wasn't so bad because most of the ride was on back country roads. There were lots of interesting farms, homes, animals and scenery to look at. Even better was making a healthy pit stop. We always try to find one but this one was the best ever!

What better snack then peaches fresh picked off the tree!

Eaten under a grape arbor...

alongside a pond...

filled with fish and frogs and dragonflies...

Treasure Hunt

The night before I told the girls that I overheard kids talking about buried treasure on the island! To get there we would have to paddle out. We crawled out of our tents in the morning, made breakfast over the campfire and then headed for the lake.

A flotilla of fun with some of our besties!

Once on the island the girls began searching for the pirates booty.

We scoured the island looking for an X that would mark the spot!

 There it is!!!

The dug until they found it!

A pouch filled with coins!

Perfect for little treasure hunters to take back to the camp store..ice cream, chocolate...yum!

Barrel Racer

Scout has been riding Tonto since she was 3 weeks old. That first day she cried....after 45 minutes of riding, when I took her off. I have not tried to "teach her". I just let her be. Let her be comfortable, happy, in tune, empowered and free, up on her pony. She asks to do things and I let her. The first time she rode alone ( I mean really alone I was not holding the lead line) was when she was 2. I was not trying to reach that milestone she just did it. It was her choice and she had the desire, passion and interest to do it. She watched me teach the older kids, she asked questions, she practiced on her "pretend horses". This story is just about horseback riding but the rest of her learning will go the same. Reading, math or horseback riding. When she wants to...and I know she will...she will make it happen. We will be there to help her and support her when she wants it.

Today's story? Scout rode Tonto in her barrel race. Three runs and I never touched the pony! They did it together..she even decided to trot to the finish in two runs! You go girl!!

This was the cowgirl outfit she put together for today's race..adorable .

Bringing Tonto to the trailer.

Brushing Tonto out at the show.

Making a "pony tail".

Here they are, Texas Barrels. I walked the course to show her the pattern but never touched Tonto!

Love this pony!! And yes she was a rescue..."sadly outgrown".  She will never have to worry about that again! We will take care of her for the rest of her life, giving her thanks for all the wonderful care she gave to Scout and many other children.

Riding back to the trailer.

Back home giving love to our other special souls.

Discovering rhododendrons

We are lucky enough to live in the same town as Heritage Gardens  .They have awesome children's programs . On this day we attended Owl academy's program on rhododendrons.

As we traveled through the gardens we collected rhody flowers that had fallen to the ground.

Our fabulous teacher!

Once we arrived at the outdoor classroom the children had many options of crafts and experiments that they could choose to do if they wished.

A beautiful headband....

threading a necklace...

a closer look...

so much to learn.

There is an amazing display of "Garden Gates" throughout the grounds.

A little heart throb!

No visit is complete without time spent in hidden hollow .

And finally a visit to the carousel.
